Bergner, Elisabeth

(1897-1986)
   Austrian actress of Galician origin. Born in Drohobycz, Galicia, she studied at the Vienna Conservatory. She made her debut in 1919 in Zurich. In 1928 she went on a tour of Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Austria playing in works by Shakespeare, Ibsen and others. From 1923 she appeared in films. In 1933 she emigrated with her husband to Britain where she appeared in plays and films.
